Virtually everyone at UNL is hoping for a snow day tomorrow. I am not. I need to run some experiments and tests in my chem lab I work at, and the Rigaku (crystal x-ray diffraction machine) will be down if UNL is down. I will walk 15 min across campus in the 16 (feels like -11) degree weather predicted for tomorrow if I can just get those darn tests done. Also I have no class tomorrow, and if school is cancelled tomorrow there is a slimmer chance it will be canceled on Wednesday when I actually do have class, and a horrible P.chem test. So here's to hoping Wed. school is cancelled!
Also, my best friend hill started her first blog which you can find here. I'm glad. She needs an outlet with all that she's dealing with. We chatted yesterday and it was so wonderful and much needed. We've been going through similar things with the men in our lives (aka Kyle and Tim) which is both horrible and great at the same time. Situationally horrible, great that we're going through it together. It gets easier every day. I lie. It doesn't. But some days it's great and other days it's bearable and other days it's not. But that's the way it is.
Oh. I bought a new hat. Amanda will think it's trashy when she sees it but I love it. It's cameo with a bright red Nebraska "N" on it. I've been wanting one like this for awhile now but the only one I could find was at Wal-mart (probably why Amanda thinks it's a trashy idea... haha) and it looked chintzy so I never bought it. And I bought a vintage Nebraska sweatshirt that I love as well. It has Little Red on it. This is what happens when you spend an hour in between classes browsing the bookstore because you forgot to pack your lunch and you don't want to walk back to your apt in the snow or fill up on fast food in the Union. You walk out $80 poorer. Also with my latest paycheck I made a trip to Trader Joe's. Love it. I bought the best red wine I've ever tasted for $9.99 (yes they have wine tasting!) and some chardonnay for $2.99. It doesn't taste like $2.99 I can tell you that much. It's a big deal for me to like red wine by the way. I generally kind of hate it. Hmm other noteworthy purchases? Sugarland and Maroon5 CD's. Yeah I bought the actual CD's and not the digital copy. I like to open the package flip through the booklet and feel the CD in my hand.
Spring break 2011 to be planned soon. Yes it will be girls gone mild.

Umm I got paid today!
Best day ever!
I had a measly $26.23 in one bank account (if you include my entire savings account..) and $14.30 in my other. Hello I needed this check in the mail. I started a new job in October and since I work for the state with paperwork and such it has taken until today for me to get paid! So I've been living off of savings since October, but spending like I'm not (it was Christmas, not my fault). I'm thinking maybe I should have less money more often though because since I've been running low I haven't bought any frivolous items! I haven't once walked around Target just looking for something to buy. Now I'm going to put 75% of my big fat paycheck into my savings and wait to blow it all on spring break! No I won't blow it all, but it feels good to be saving again. I love having two jobs because one job I save all my money from, and the other one I spend all my money from. It works really well for me I think.
Oh and update on my summer plans.
I don't remember if I told ya'll but I wanted to apply for an internship working in an orphanage in Honduras with the organization Orphan Outreach based out of Dallas, Texas. A few years ago my sister was a part of the internship and after lots of prayer I was ready to give it a go. Unfortunately Orphan Outreach is no longer hosting interns in Honduras or Guatemala (my second choice) so it's a little out of the question. I am going to reach out to a contact of mine that I met through the women's student-alumni organization though and see if I can go on a medical mission to Thailand. If that falls through then I will most likely be returning to the Center for Community Health which is a non-profit organization that is a part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center. I've loved my time there the past two summers but I really want to go abroad. Keep me in your prayers please!

Inspiration
People always get mad at me when I say I think I'm fat. Here's the deal though, I didn't even hit 100 pounds until I was in high school, and by the time I graduated and was ready to leave for college I weighed a measly 110 pounds. That's not a lot. Now, I weigh a lot. And even more than that, my body isn't the tight and toned gymnast/dancer body that I once had. Also, to be clear I don't actually think I'm fat. I do think I could stand to loose about 10-15 pounds. So now that I've already lost about 15 pounds I'm really on a kick to get in better shape and loose some inches!
This is my inspiration photo taken about a week before I left for my first semester of college. One that I can look at when it's taped to my full length mirror and say, I can be that thin again! Except that this photo is completely unrealistic because I was ridiculously skinny and have to accept the fact that I will never again be 110 pounds and made of long lean muscles.. (but it's nice to dream?)
This is my realistic inspiration photo! I don't have a perfecto tummy made solely of abs but I'm 21 and already declining so I'll take what I can get!
Now, if I ever get up to a size 6 again and am not pregnant, please tell me I'm out of control in the harshest way possible. I need it.
So how am I going to get back in shape!? By working out. I'm doing p90X because even though the rec takes 4 minutes to walk to from my apartment, I have an intense fear of working out in public. I feel like everyone is judging me. I wish I could say I'm cutting calories and eating super healthy however if you know me, you know this is not the case. I already eat really healthy, but I splurge at least twice a week and sometimes more so I need to be realistic. Or I need to learn how to control La'Shawnda. La'Shawnda is the name given to my inner fat girl by my friends while having a hefty portion of burritos and margaritas at La Mex. Yes me and my friends name our inner fat girls, you can laugh at us. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

I like Mark.
I liked this. I think it's a pretty fantastic idea actually. Christensen said it best telling reporters "criminals do not follow the rules." They just don't. Obviously making a law saying no guns on school campuses does not prevent criminals from bringing guns to school, history supports my statement. It does prevent law abiding citizens with their CHL from bringing a handgun to school. I am behind you all the way Mark Christensen! Let's allow the law abiding citizens to exercise their right to bear arms because whether we like it or not, criminals will!

So I nanny a little boy named Camden (pictures to come). He's now 4.5 months old and I started nannying him when he was 3 weeks old. He's grown a lot and is a cute little guy. Now. That brings me to my point. Camden fell asleep in my arms (as usual because he always needs to be coaxed into falling asleep) tonight while watching Say Yes to the Dress. What was am I thinking!? I say am because I am still watching Say Yes to the Dress... Being alone with a baby and watching a wedding show is a recipe for an emotional disaster when I'm still incredibly fragile from a heart breaking end to a 3.5 year relationship. Can we fast forward the 1.75 years (according to Charlotte) it will take me to get over it? Yes. And while you're at it please fast forward me to a 2nd year med student where I can fall in love with a hunky 4th year. And at the request of my abuelita please make him Latino.
I am now going to eat half my weight in cheese. Do not judge me.

Well 12 degree weather is A LOT warmer than -3 degree weather. I still hate the cold. Last semester I was in Nebraska heaven. No snow, no negative temperatures, no needing to bust out my ski jacket. Now, I'm back to reality. Somewhere around 12 inches of snow, 2 snow days, wind, and temperature Tuesday's at Runza (the temp outside at 6 am is the price you pay for a (gross) runza!) I hate it. Something I love is that Katelin is back from Spain and we can use the tunnel between our buildings to see each other without ever going outside! I've missed her.
Now as for a quick update. We started school 2 days late on Wednesday which was wonderful for me because I became violently ill around 3 am Sunday morning. Since my Mondays start at 9:30am and end at 5:30pm with a four hour lab I was very relieved to have skipped that day. Another perk of the new semester, no school on Tuesdays! But that means I'll be working all day Tuesday instead. Let me take this moment to say I don't like my job. I kind of hate it. I have a wonderful boss (Dr. Choe) but researching metal organic frameworks is just terribly boring. I wish I loved my thesis idea but I don't. In science when you need at least 2 years of research before you can even try and act like you did something meaningful and that means no time to start over. Bleck. Let's get this semester and this thesis over with!
Also, my P.chem class has 44% of my grade riding on my cumulative final exam. Great.
